A World Fair Trade Day and Annual Meeting 2008 Report

Pekerti’ World Fair Trade Day 2008 Celebration

As a Fair Trade organization Pekerti was never absent in celebrating the world Fair Trade day. In year 2008, with the theme of “bersama Fair Trade kita selamatkan bumi (with Fair Trade we save our world)” Pekerti celebrated world Fair Trade Day by holding a tree plantation activity on May 10th 2008. This activity was held at “Kampung Pekerti’ (Pekerti village), land purchased by a group of Pekerti’s staff and board”. The 12,822 m2 of land has been chosen to become a pilot tree plantation project for the supply of raw materials used for craft.

The earthquake left long-lasting traumatic feeling for the victims. Generally, there was positive movements occur in daily lives of earthquake victims, economically-disadvantaged groups, artisans, laborers, and farmers. To date, the communities of earthquake victims are pursuing their livelihood to continue their lives and business, with assistance in the form of, asset replacement, bank loan, loan fund in cash or material loan from shops and refund after fund from government was accepted. Victims have started to re-run their businesses, both new and re-established old. Reconstruction programs have opened windows of opportunities provide new sources of livelihood, where reconstruction activities required skilled laborers and materials which employs idle hands.
